Paragliding:
a visual journey
Follow along with us as adventurers take to the skies for the first time on a tandem, learn valuable paragliding skills or even catch a glimpse of pilots just goofing around!
What a perfect start to the year - a little airtime with a group of friends. Woodside was the place to be and even a few spots of lift showed up! I'm taking this as a sign there will be a lot more flying this year, and excited to meet my first goal of the year - to double my airtime over what I managed in 2014. 10 minutes down, a few more hours to go ;)
Kevin made this great little video of our impromptu hike and fly off Elk Mountain earlier this fall. The hike up is now covered in snow in the higher elevations…time to get your winter climbing gear out! The Elkrun from Kevin Ault on Vimeo. What's on your Christmas wish list this year? If your list looks like mine it has a new hike and fly kit on it. If so then direct Santa over to Thermal Addict Airsports where he can pick out the new Skywalk Arriba 3 wing, a Range Air lightweight pod harness or Flex hike & fly (that's great for kiting too) and a shiny new hike and fly pack! If you let him know that it will also benefit your new year's resolution of getting in shape then he's sure to help you out. Please Santa…we've all been so very good!
Check back here for more gift ideas all week, remember most items ship from overseas and items can take a little longer to arrive over the holiday season. We've got strong winds blowing through the valley right now, but if you can find a spot that's somewhat sheltered you can have some fun kiting your wing and refreshing your muscle memory.
I stole this picture off Facebook from one of the other Skywalk Team Pilots. Love how they made t-shirts from the winners track logs! Or I'm guessing that's what's going on because my German isn't good enough to understand all the comments under his picture, haha.
Since I couldn't make it to the Women's Hallowe'en Fly-In down in Chelan, Washington this year, I decided to pull out some of my bee costume to wear yesterday and have my own costumed flight! Stunning weather for November 1st, still can't get over the beauty of this place on a sunny day.
Looking through pictures from last year at this time, we were still flying in November, although will a lot more layers. Bundle up and fly on!
Another shot from Friday's hike and fly. At this point, all struggles of the hike are long forgotten.
One reason I chose to move out to the Valley from The Big City was to take advantage of living close to the mountains and to be able to catch last minute flights. Yesterday was a perfect example! Kevin (another local) called me up and convinced me to go for a hike and fly up Elk Mountain. We timed it perfectly, after the strong outflow winds of the morning and before the next weather system moved in. After an hour and a half of hiking, we arrived up top to light winds. Soon we were gliding back into the valley with huge smiles, landing softly beside our vehicles. |
