Skill Development for Novice and Above Rated Pilots
As everyone has different needs and availability, pricing structures vary.
In general, the minimum fee to book your instructor & ensure they are available for you at
Appointments are pre-booked to ensure your instructor's availability (no other tandems booked during your time, etc). In case of inclement weather, we will reschedule.
Due to the nature of the sport, on xc clinic days we will offer a 2nd day free of charge if conditions don't cooperate.
Other lessons can be taught during this para-waiting time.

- Includes: pre-flight talks & assessment (kiting & launch skills including timing, proper gear set-up, flight planning)
- Preparation and goal setting
- In-air coaching.
- Then either you take off xc and I'll chase you by car & pick you up or we can fly xc together. After landing we would find a way back or ideally try an out & return (your choice - we can discuss this in the am depending on the forecast).
- We'll finish up with a review of the day & discuss your goals for the rest of the flying season.
HPAC Ratings
These are the necessary requirements to receive HPAC paragliding ratings. As an HPAC certified instructor I can administer exams from Beginner to Advanced, and evaluate your skills to sign you off for your next rating. Email for more information!

- Beginner Rating written examination
- Minimum twelve minutes airtime
- Flight test, which includes:
- Proper layout, preflight and packing of equipment.
- Adherence to multi-point harness check procedure. (1)
- Ground handle and launch alone in light winds.
- Demonstration of consistent proper launching skills from both the forward and reverse inflation positions.
- Ability to establish proper flight plans in accordance to wind conditions and to fly to it.
- Ability to control speed range in level flight including proper use of accelerator.
- Ability to do consistent stand up landings within a thirty meter diameter area.
- Thirty five flights. Ten flights must be above two hundred and fifty meters and ten flights must be soaring flights
- Novice Rating written examination
- Four hours logged solo airtime
- Flight test, which includes:
- Proper layout, preflight and packing of equipment.
- Adherence to multi point harness check procedure.. (1)
- Ground handle and launch alone in moderate laminar winds (up to 15 km/h, with visual check).
- Ground handle and launch alone in light thermic winds (up to 10 km/h, with visual check)
- Perform smooth consistent inflations from both the forward and reverse positions and make a smooth transition from running to flying.
- Demonstrate two 360° turns in the same direction. *
- Demonstrate reversing 360° turn. *
- Demonstrate pitch and roll in level flight.
- Perform standard aircraft approach with a final leg of at least three seconds.
- Controlled landing on feet within thirty meter diameter circle.
- Demonstrate consistent and controlled ground handling skills by kiting the wing for a period of three minutes.
- Give a verbal analysis of current conditions, possible hazards, areas of caution, flight plan and self-assessment.
- One hundred and fifty flights with a minimum of the following: Forty flights above two hundred and fifty metres & forty flights below two hundred and fifty metres of at least ten minutes duration
- Ten different sites, including cliff launch, ridge/dynamic and inland/thermic.
- Twenty five hours airtime
- Be able to kite forward & reverse inflated for five minutes each
- Intermediate Rating written examination including the a discussion of the entry/exit of a safe and effective rapid descent maneuver, of the pilot's choice
- Basic first aid strongly recommended
- A reserve toss and repack seminar is highly recommended
- Two hundred flights
- Forty kilometre cross-country flight
- Advanced Rating written examination
- Must write and pass Transport Canada HAGAR examination
- One hundred hours airtime
- Basic first aid strongly recommended
