"He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying." ~Friedrich Nietzsche
Jet Set Paragliding offers a limited training each season for new students as well as skill development for pilots with Novice ratings and above.
Starting from scratch: The first days of training involve ground-school and kiting practice, which means "flying" your wing while standing on the ground. Before moving up from the training hill to your first solo high flight, we do require you to purchase your own equipment. This ensures you learn to fly with the actual gear you will be using in the future, with the added bonus of not being stuck on an old school kit that isn't the right size or rating for you. Total training time depends on each individual as well as weather conditions. We follow the teaching guidelines set forth by HPAC which requires 25 supervised flights as well as a written exam that covers meteorology, airmanship and aerodynamics.
Novice rated pilots: What's next after being signed off? You can now fly without an instructor present and are expected to keep learning on your own. If you'd like to improve on your base knowledge (launching, thermalling, confidence in the air, etc) or just feel rusty after not flying for a while & need a "tune-up", consider a one-on-one coaching day on skill development.
Jet Set Paragliding instructors also administer HPAC tests & ratings through to Advanced, and can help foreign pilots get a Canadian rating.
PPG learning PG: Are you taking up powered paragliding? Sign up for an introductory course, we work with various powered paragliding schools to teach you the basics of wing control before you learn to fly your motor. Already a PPG pilot but want to fly without a motor? Some of your techniques may need to be "unlearned" for flying an unpowered wing. Contact us for an accelerated Novice Rating course, we'll teach you the skills to be able to switch gears and fly safely.
Accelerated courses also available for hang glider pilots learning to paraglide, and students who have begun courses at other schools who wish to complete their ratings. Email today for more information.
Continuing (Flying) Education: Since March 2012, we have offered a number of classes on various topics to further your development as a well-rounded pilot. Check out the Courses Page to see what's available.
All of our instructors and tandem pilots are certified by the Hang gliding & Paragliding Association of Canada.
